9/13 Bike tour reaches its conclusion, shorter than we hoped--but AMAZING!
3/13 Left New Orleans on Bike tour...
THE U.S. BY BICYCLE/Jessamee Sanders + Zach Whitney
JESSAMEE: Designer. Lover of travel + people, and all things beautiful. ZACH: Builder and mechanical top-hat. Loves to ride bikes.
In early 2013 we begin a bicycle tour that will take us around the perimeter of the US over the course of a year, meandering around the USA, hither and yon. We made the decision to rent out our house and take a year to travel the country by bike because, well…why not? On a bicycle you get to travel roads you might miss if you were on the highway, meet people you’d never have a chance to meet otherwise, and you travel slowly enough that you notice absolutely everything. Our country is incredibly diverse, interesting and beautiful and we can think of no better way to experience it--slow and steady, mile by mile, hill by hill.
We're keeping things open, and we make no promises. We may find a little town in Texas and decide to stop for a month, we might hop on the train to cover some slow terain, we might fall in love with a place and just stay there forever....the point for us is to learn, grow and have fun along the way, so we will be officially going with the flow at every turn.
Our bikes will be packed with a substantial amount of gear and we will be camping most of the time; staying with friends or in hotels as needed, when we’ve been wet and cold for too long. We have waterproof front and back panniers (bike-mounted bags), rack-packs and handlebar bags--everything will be packed to the brim. Hopefully not too heavy.
Why The Peddlers? We call ourselves The Peddlers because we’ve been peddling handmade, custom-stamped necklaces to supplement our savings, which we hope to continue to do on the road. And, Peddlers/Pedalers.....I couldn't help myself.
Whether we’re listening to live music in New Orleans, or huffing and puffing our way through the Rockies I’m sure the whole trip will be full of surprises, beauty, stories, chaos and opportunities for personal growth. We’d love feedback on our site, so let us know how we’re doing and enjoy!
